Happy endings!

Working with homeless cats can be hard work and a little sad too sometimes, but the happy endings always make it more than worthwhile! Below you can find some stories of cats rehomed from the Mid Kent RSPCA branch who have wonderful new lives!

Busby

I thought I’d share these photos of Busby enjoying life in his new home with you, I remember how much I loved seeing cattery cats happy in their new homes. As you can see, he’s settled in really well and has become a gorgeous, affectionate happy little cat. He’s still rather jumpy but this improves every day, and he’s proved to be a real character and full of mischief! He is very good at opening doors – the airing cupboard door, the bathroom door, even the front door!! The funny thing is, it took us nearly a month to teach him to use his cat flap! We thought maybe we should have just had a small front door with a handle fitted instead!

He loves being outside in the garden, but he’s a real home loving boy and thankfully doesn’t roam far. He loves watching the birds, but is luckily completely rubbish at catching them! But most of all he loves his food, and spends a lot of his time trying to convince us that feeding times have mysteriously moved an hour earlier to their usual slots!! This involves an awful lot of squeaky miaowing every time we foolishly stray near the kitchen! He’s a very talkative little chap, especially at 4am when he jumps on the bed demanding a cuddle! He likes to lay beside me, with his head propped up on my pillow, it always makes me laugh no matter what time of the night it is!

I hope this brings a smile to your faces and brightens up your day. It’s thanks to all your hard work that Busby is now a contented and very much loved little cat. You all make an amazing difference to the cats in your care!

With love,
Dawn & Dave

Branston and Pickle

Branston and Pickle are a very cute one year old brother and sister who would normally find a new home within minutes of coming in the door! Sadly, these two suffer from Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) which calls for an understanding new home that would look out for them.

Both cats had to be kept in as house cats and without interaction with any other animals. FIV primarily attacks the immune system and the decrease in white blood cells can compromise the cat's ability to fight off infections. FIV is not transmittable to humans and can only be spread to other cats through bodily fluids, open wounds etc. Most FIV infected cats go on to lead a completely normal life and stay healthy for many, many years, it just helps to have a human companion that will keep them away from any opportunities to catch an infection.

We ran a focused campaign through this website adding their photos to several pages along with information on the care Branston and Pickle needed, and after just over a month we found a wonderful loving new home for them where they've settled in fantastically!

Teddy and Charlie

Teddy and Charlie are another pair of cats we helped rehome last year, in spite of Teddy being diagnosed with FIV they found a loving home where they have settled in wonderfully well. This letter was written from Teddy and Charlie's new human companion Laura.

Back in September 2009, we were looking to adopt an indoor cat, and after contacting yourselves, Katie pointed us in the direction of two brothers that were in your care that were having trouble being rehomed due to Teddy having FIV.

We have now had Teddy and Charlie living with us for almost 6 months, and they have settled in really well. I am pleased to enclose some photographs of the two little guys so that you can see how settled in they are, and how much we love having them around the place.

Teddy and Charlie have been with us for 6 months now and have become completely different cats from when we saw them in the rescue centre. They have become very outgoing and have developed into amazing little characters. They were once shy and retiring, now they demand the attention of anyone who comes into the house, listening for the front door to open, making them extremely sociable cats.

We were made aware straight away about Teddy's FIV and after carrying out some research and gaining a great understanding of what it would mean, we decided that it would not be an issue. In fact it showed us that many cats do have FIV and their owners are unaware. If you did not know that Teddy has FIV you would never tell. Teddy and Charlie have both become more active and both love spending time playing with all their toys and us. Teddy and Charlie can often be found lying on their backs in full sun or meowing at the birds in the garden.

Teddy and Charlie have fully settled in now and have made themselves very much at home. We were both surpirsed how quickly they have settled and how well they have established themsleves in daily routines. Teddy and Charlie are extrenely clean cats and have not damaged any of our furniture and having had cats before this was a surprise to us.

Best Regards,
Laura

Tinky

When we got her home on thursday she was rather shy and hid a little but that was to be expected. A few days on and you would think she has been living with us for ages. She is really happy and is loving all the attention she is getting. She has found her own favorate place to hide if Imogen gets a bit much for her. Tinky has been so good with Imogen though. Imogen loves her lots and just wants to cuddle her all the time and Tinky has been very patient with her and let her. If she has enough she goes and hides in her special place for a break. At night when we put Imogen to bed Tinky sits outside her bedroom until she goes to sleep....so sweet!

Tinky has been eating well to. She has been sleeping at night with me and Rory as well. We have got her playing with a string on a mouse we got her and she is loving that!

I think we can safely say that she has settled in well and we are loving having her live with us!

Kind regards,
Liz
