About Us

We are a small branch of the RSPCA based in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells operating entirely on the good will of volunteers, donations and fund raising efforts. The branch has been around for over 100 years helping animals around the Mid Kent area. Our primary activity is rehoming stray and abandoned dogs and cats from around Kent and sometimes further afield to help out other branches and animal welfare charities.

The branch never destroys healthy animals. If no potential adopter has come forward the branch will then undertake a targeted marketing campaign to minimize the length of time an animal remains in kennels/cattery in order to keep down levels of stress this can cause the animal; we also regularly work with dog behaviourists to help resocialise dogs with sociological problems.

It is our intention that all animals will be microchipped, neutered and vaccinated prior to leaving our care and we request adoption fees to help cover the costs of doing this. All potential adopters will be contacted to arrange a home visit prior to adoption to ensure that a successful match is made between the adopter and animal to be rehomed. A post adoption visit is then arranged to discuss any problems and answer any new questions.

Besides rehoming we also run a charity shop in Wheeler Street, Maidstone to help raise money for the branch, and a pet clinic from the same property in association with several local vets providing low cost health treatment and neutering to people on certain means tested benefits.

The branch is run entirely on donations from the public and currently has no central property; in 2003 we were evicted from the centre we had built up for several years and now operate primarily via this website, from the homes of volunteers and from a privately owned kennel supportive to our cause. We have been saving up for a new centre including a cattery, kennels and offices to be built for the last four years; property in Kent is very expensive but with everyone's help we are nearing our target slowly!
